WHDLoad games are made up of the “slave”, the game data and the main whdload executable. The official WHDLoad website does not distribute the actual game data.
Game data is available from the links in this EAB post, “Retroplay’s WHD uploads” https://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=61028
I used the Mega link.
These files are updated frequently, new games, new versions of old games. DAT files are available for checking which files are missing from your set of downloaded files, I used these DAT files with JRomManager.
WHDLoad itself is available from here https://whdload.de/ Additionally this tool works great for extracting the game LHAs while keeping them in their sorted directory structure.
In terms of filesystem, many of the filenames are longer than the standard Amiga 30 character filenames.
The option I used is PFS - Toni Wilen’s PFS3AIO for the actual driver, and PFS3 V5.3 for the supporting tools.
The partition must be formatted to enable long filenames - this can be done by Double-clicking the PFSFormat command (located in Tools drawer of the original PFS) and enter the following arguments to format your new partition: DEVICE=DH5: NAME=Example FNSIZE=107 NOICONS QUICK
In addition to WHDLoad itself, some of the installs require Kickstart ROM images. These need to be named correctly and placed in the correct folder
